How to Tell If Your Baby Is Getting Enough Milk
Wet Diapers Tell the Truth
After the first week:
-
6–8 wet diapers/day = healthy intake
-
Pale yellow urine
-
Light smell
Dark, strong-smelling pee could mean dehydration.
Dirty diapers vary
Some babies poop 1x per day.
Others 6x per day.
Both are normal—as long as texture is soft and baby is calm.
Calm baby ≠ hungry baby
Babies who are full:
-
Relax their fists
-
Release the nipple on their own
-
Fall asleep peacefully
-
Breathe deeply
Tight fists + panic = hunger.
Weight gain is objective
Your pediatrician will use WHO growth charts.
You don’t need to compare your baby with others.
What matters:

Confidence is part of supply
Stress → oxytocin ↓ → milk flow ↓
You’re not “broken.”
You’re overwhelmed.
